About the Artist
Lauren Hunter Burke
An art educator and former graphic designer, Lauren decided to stay home when her children were born. Spending the days with her kitties and young children inspired her to nurture her lifelong passion for portraiture and capture their personalities on paper. She finds joy in studying faces - human, feline, canine or other(!) and discovering the colors and textures that can best convey a feeling.
Lauren graduated “with distinction” from the University of Virginia in 2000 with a B.A. in French and Studio Art and a concentration in painting. She subsequently earned a B.S. in Art Education from Rhode Island College. She has worked as a graphic designer in three states, as well as France, and she has years of experience teaching art to children ages 4-18.
From her childhood hobby of drawing her teachers while they lectured, to earning a 5 out of 5 on her A.P. Art portfolio of portraits in high school, to painting portraits of relatives in her spare time, Lauren has been moved to paint faces for as long as she can remember.
